Who We Are

We Are The Southern Education Foundation

We are committed to students of color and low-income students in the South. We believe that we have an obligation as a nation to provide young people with a high-quality education that begins in early childhood and carries them through the post-secondary opportunities of their choice.

Our Mission

The Southern Education Foundation’s mission is to advance creative solutions to ensure equity and excellence in education for students of color and low-income students in the South.

Our Equity Definition

We believe we have achieved equity when systems work to ensure that each student receives what they need in order to develop to their full academic and social potential. The goal of equity is to create a world where race and income are no longer the most reliable predictors of student success.

Our Values

We fully embrace our role as an advocate and are committed to standing in the gap to champion the issues and causes that matter most to the children, families, and communities we serve. We filter all of our work through an “equity and inclusion” lens, and our actions are infused with the integrity and compassion that inspire our work.

Our Vision

Central to our belief in the responsibility to educate our children is our commitment to racial equity and social justice. We view public education as a pathway by which education equity may be sustained. Learn more about how we view the challenges and opportunities that exist in the South.
