Who We Are

The Southern Education Foundation

We believe education equity is essential to achieve quality and fairness in the public education system.

For more than 150 years, we have remained committed to education for students of color and low-income students in the South. We believe that we have an obligation as a nation to provide all young people with a high-quality education that begins in early childhood and carries them through the post-secondary opportunities of their choice.

Our mission is to advance creative solutions to ensure equity and excellence in education.

Equity exists when race and income are no longer the most reliable predictors of student success and systems work to ensure that each child receives what they need when they need it, to develop to their full academic and social potential. We envision a world where every student, regardless of background, enjoys an education that propels them toward the opportunity-rich life they deserve.

Our Values

We embrace our role as an advocate for fair education systems. We are committed to standing in the gap to champion the issues and causes that matter most to the children, families, and communities we serve. We filter all of our work through an “equity ” lens, and our actions are infused with the integrity and compassion that inspire our work.
