Recently named the 2019 Dr. John Hope Franklin Award recipient for his impact on higher education policy, Dr. Nettles was acknowledged for his longstanding passion for leveraging data to inform how the system should best serve students at the K-12 and post-secondary levels while also gauging their success accurately and equitably. He is pictured above with his fellow awardee, Dr. Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham, one of the nation’s most prominent historians, who serves as the Victor S. Thomas Professor of History and African and African American Studies at Harvard University.
