On May 22nd-24th, SEF was proud to host the orientation for our Southern Education Leadership Initiative (SELI) 2019 cohort. A continuation of SEF’s legacy of leadership development, which spans more than a century, this program carries forward the spirit of our commitment to cultivating leaders for education equity in the South. Thanks to generous support from our SELI sponsors, we were able to double this year’s cohort size and substantially increase our representation of fellows from historically black colleges and universities. Over 200 applicants applied to this competitive fellowship, and we are exceptionally pleased with our fellowship awardees. This year’s expanded cohort of 19 talented young leaders will work in nonprofit organizations, school districts, state agencies, and universities across the South to help build P-16 education systems that grant real educational opportunity to all students regardless of race or income. We look forward to seeing the impact this fellowship experience has on their commitment and contribution toward promoting racial equity in the education sector. With your ongoing support, we can continue to grow this amazing leadership opportunity.
