The Southern Education Foundation, founded as the Peabody Fund in 1867, works to ensure equity and excellence in education for all students in the South. SEF has a long-standing commitment to HBCUs which has included supporting accreditation efforts to establish many of the institutions as well as advancing research and technology on campuses. SEF utilizes research, leadership development, legislative affairs, and advocacy efforts to address K-12 reform initiatives, higher education restructuring with a commitment toward HBCUs, and the development of policies and practices that concentrate on the interests of students who are low-income and students of color across 17 southern states.
