Election 2020

Education Equity on the Ballot

Education in the Elections

Elected officials at all levels – from local and state school boards, state legislatures and state executive offices to the federal legislative and executive branches – influence education budgets, school funding, curriculum and instruction, teacher and administrator recruitment and retention and regulatory and accountability measures, and appoint individuals who set education policy and procedures. Those decisions affect students’ lives. The Southern Education Foundation has compiled education policy positions from the Democratic and Republican candidates for the four southern governor seats open in 2020 (Delaware, Missouri, North Carolina and West Virginia) and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction in North Carolina, and all candidates running for State School Board in Alabama and Texas.
