Marsha Drake

Chief Equity Officer, Hamilton County Board of Education
Chattanooga, TN

A long‐time educator, Dr. Marsha Drake has worked since 1999 with students and families from all backgrounds. She had the pleasure of serving as a special education educator for over five years in the rural and urban areas of Chattanooga, TN. Dr. Drake’s intuitive and innovative approach to serving her students and families offered the opportunity to transition into leadership.

Continuing to serve in the high‐need priority areas of her local school district, Marsha was named Assistant Principal for several years, before shifting to the role of Executive Principal, in the same urban/magnet setting. Dr. Drake assembled a team of leaders and educators to meet the very specific needs of the population she served. Understanding the role of parents in their student’s academic success, improvements were made around family and community engagement through partnerships with families and local organizations.

In the summer of 2014, Dr. Drake was promoted to Director of Student Services for the Hamilton County Department of Education. After three short years and improvement around the areas of student support, Dr. Drake was promoted to the newly created Chief Equity Officer position in the Hamilton County Department of Education in December of 2017.
