2015 - The assessment of student learning is something more than a box to check off on the way to “passing accreditation.” Done well, it can strengthen institutional effectiveness and advance inclusive excellence, not only within Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), but across higher education more generally. This brief seeks to address the question that inevitably arises when conceptualizing the assessment of student learning:
How can institutions gather credible evidence of what students know and can do as a result of their college education?
The brief is the second in a series by Jo Beld, Ph.D., Vice President for Mission and Professor of Political Science at St. Olaf College, focused on student learning assessments. Read the first brief, Advancing Excellence, Enhancing Equity: Making the Case for Assessment at MSIs.
