Chloe Sikes

SELI 2018 Fellow

Chloe Latham Sikes is a doctoral student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin, where she also earned a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum & Instruction. She previously worked in college readiness programs and university admissions. During both the 2015 and 2017 Texas state legislative sessions, Chloe had the opportunity to work as a lobbyist and legislative intern with educational advocacy groups advancing equity in education policy across both K-12 and higher education contexts. Her research interests include the influences of sociocultural contexts on educational policy, racial equity in school finance policy, school-community partnerships, education advocacy coalitions, and critical policy analysis.

Chloe is placed with the Center for Public Policy Priorities this summer in Austin, Texas. Chloe is working on projects related to school finance and immigration. She is generating a primer on the state of bilingual education in Texas, as well as a data series on pressing school finance concerns. Much of the work feeds into preparation for next spring's state legislative session, which promises to rekindle debates on school funding, charter schools, and property taxes.
