This 115-page report is a collection of 6 original essays portraying the history, conditions, and current issues of race and racism in Brazil, South Africa, and the United States. The portraits include over 50 tables detailing current and recent trends and data on each nation’s struggle with racism. The report also contains comprehensive historical time lines of key events related to race in the three countries.

The authors are: Abdias do Nascimento of the Brazilian Federal Legislature; Elisa Larkin Nascimento, co-founder, IPEFRO; Brazilian scholar Nelson do Valle Silva; Wilmot James, dean, University of Cape Town, South African sociologist Jeffrey Lever; Colin Bundy, Vice-Chancellor, University of Witwatersrand; Charles V. Hamilton, professor emeritus, Columbia University; and Ira Glasser, executive director, the American Civil Liberties Union.
