Victor Cuicahua

2017 SELI Fellow
Alabama Possible

Victor Cuicahua is a rising senior at Pomona College in Claremont, California where he is studying history. This summer he will work with Alabama Possible in his hometown of Birmingham to improve college access and create a college going culture in the community. Prior to SELI, Cuicahua was a Summer Research Opportunities Research Fellow, a Birmingham Civil Rights Institute Hispanic Outreach Intern, a Steering Member for the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice, and the founder of the Immigrant Youth Leadership Initiative of Alabama.

“I am excited to be able to return to Alabama with both a better understanding of pertinent education issues and the opportunity to work with an organization directly addressing them. Education equity has considerably influenced by life, but I am aware that I am not the only one. My individual story is inseparably tied to thousands of other marginalized students and I am grateful to be in a position to address our common challenge.”
